It doesn’t get much better than an ice-cold beverage and a relaxing evening on the front porch.
If you’re lucky enough to have one of these outdoor havens in the Kansas City area, you know that when the weather allows, it can be a bonus living area. A place to wave “hi” to the neighbors, read a book, or have a long conversation with a friend.
Often, though, it’s overwhelming to figure out just how to create a space that’s both durable to the elements and welcoming. That’s why we recently spent an entire month talking about front porches on our social media pages.
We shared some of our favorite front porches and all month long, we asked readers to choose their favorites. A random commenter was selected to win a $1,000 front porch makeover!
This was their set-up, before Toska got her hands on the project (and it was already nice and relaxing!)…
And then the real fun happened. Toska set out to work with our winner – planning, designing, and shopping.
Toska’s top three quick tips for creating a beautiful and welcoming front porch:
- My favorite places to grab rugs and accessories (without breaking the bank) are Target, HomeGoods, and TJ Maxx.
- When in doubt, add a plant.
- Color and texture go a long way in adding warmth and comfort.
A rug here, a few plants there, a new light fixture, and several more changes were added to create a welcoming, comfortable, and stylish front porch. And of course, pillows. You can never have enough pillows – even on the porch.
